My name is Vladyslav Yemchenko, and I am a professional wrestling coach with over four decades of direct involvement in the sport — first as a competitive athlete, and now as a practitioner dedicated to the methodological and theoretical advancement of wrestling. I am writing to formally apply for membership in the International Network of Wrestling Researchers (INWR), an organization whose mission I deeply admire and wish to actively contribute to.
My athletic career spanned the Soviet competitive circuit at a high level, culminating in notable achievements including a 2nd place finish at the USSR Armed Forces Youth Championship (1984, 75 kg), a 1st place title at the USSR Railway Workers Championship — Lokomotiv Sports Society, Senior Division (1989, 82 kg) — and, more recently, a 3rd place result at the World Veteran Wrestling Championship (2016, 76 kg). This last achievement reflects not only my continued connection to competitive wrestling, but my conviction that the sport demands lifelong learning and engagement.
As a professional coach, my primary focus has evolved toward the methodology, theory, and practice of wrestling — the systematic study of how wrestlers are trained, how techniques are taught and refined, and how scientific principles can be applied to elevate performance at every level. I believe that coaching, at its highest expression, is an applied research discipline, and I have approached my work with that conviction throughout my career.
My motivation for joining the INWR is straightforward: I wish to be part of a serious international community where wrestling is studied with rigor and passion. I am eager to exchange methodological insights with researchers and practitioners from other countries, to stay abreast of the latest developments in wrestling science, and to contribute my own practical experience to collective knowledge. The kind of cross-disciplinary dialogue that the INWR fosters — between coaches, analysts, academics, and federations — is precisely what the sport needs to continue evolving.
