My academic interests lie in the use of non-custodial penalties to rehabilitate criminal offenders. I have researched probation and electronic monitoring, and currently sports-based interventions -principally wrestling- to assist in the process of aiding desistance from crime. Research indicates the strong value of similar programmes in making positive and lasting impacts in reintegrating offenders into society; although research on wrestling in this area is currently absent, the sport’s well-established virtues: resilience, self-discipline, honour, etc., make it highly suited to transform the lives of offenders while improving community safety.

I am a student of the Esmaeli Wrestling Academy, Bristol, UK., and currently, assist Coach Saeed Esmaeli with his charitable foundation: Wrestling for Humanity. Our aim is to empower members of the local community (and beyond) by using wrestling to overcome adversity and achieve their life potential. We have assisted athletes with visible and non-visible disabilities, refugees from war; those suffering financial hardship, substance addiction and mental health issues. Additionally, we provide elite athletes with world-class wrestling coaching and sports psychology.
